DeutschTroit emerged from a 2018 pop-up restaurant initiative, dedicated to transporting the authentic tastes and culinary traditions of regional Germany to the Metro Detroit area. The venture is the collaborative effort of Jana, a passionate baker and entrepreneur hailing from Berlin, Germany, and Shawn, a seasoned chef and food enthusiast native to Detroit. Their partnership, a harmonious blend of cultural backgrounds and culinary expertise, solidified after a transformative trip to Germany in 2017. Inspired by the rich tapestry of German cuisine, they resolved to introduce Metro Detroit to classic and contemporary dishes such as Schnitzel, Currywurst, and Rouladen, thus giving birth to DeutschTroit.
Navigating the challenges of subsequent years, including a global pandemic, DeutschTroit expanded its operations in 2023 with the addition of a food trailer. In March 2024, they took on the management of the kitchen at Lagerhaus No.5, located at 1529 Adelaide in Eastern Market.
DeutschTroit prioritizes authenticity, employing time-honored family recipes and sourcing genuine German ingredients whenever feasible, despite the occasional challenges in procurement. Their commitment to delivering an unadulterated German culinary experience drives their pursuit of the most authentic flavors.
